Barbara Johansen, lives in the Mango Groves neighborhood of Lake Worth.
Barbara graduated from the Fashion Institute in N.Y. and over the years evolved from being a textile designer to a multi media artist. The body of work I choose to feature here are her Retablos unique one of a kind altar pieces inspired from her time in Mexico. When one wants to express thanks, show gratitude, one would commission a retablos. Barbara’s retblos feature Freda Kahlo, Buddha and The Virgin of Guadalupe and come in various sizes selling from $35 to $140. Her work is in shops around the country that specialize in hand crafted works of art.
This is just the first of many artists I will feature here, who live and work in Lake Worth “Support your local artists”. If you know one send the info on to me here.

You picked a good artist to start with
Nice post, and pics, too.
I love Barbara Johansen’s retablos and all her other work. She makes such beautiful jewelry. She’s got wonderful visual creativity and an eye for color, beauty and proportion. The best retablos–well, my favorite–is a Frida Kahlo retablos in a vivid sky-blue box. .
wonderful! Great to see Barbara here! Great photos!!!!
thanks for a great write up.
Im looking forward to moving to Lake Worth and meeting artists like Barbara!
Barbara and I have been friends since our college days at the Fashion Institute.
She is incredibly versatile in her creative talents and collectors have the opportunity and joy
of sharing a ‘part of Barbara.’
